The 4-Day Isle of Skye Experience

Day 1 – Loch Lomond, Rannoch Moor, Glencoe, Eilean Donan Castle, Hotel in Skye

You depart your accommodation and travel north through the Trossachs National Park. Often called the ‘Highlands in miniature’, we make a quick stop and enjoy the stunning views of Loch Lomond and Ben Lomond. Cross over the ancient national fault line and travel into the highlands, where the landscapes change dramatically. This is where we first catch a glimpse of the Rannoch Moor, which is covered in heather, lochans, and peat bogs. You also enjoy stunning views of the Black Mount and the Buachaille Etive Mor. We then travel through Scotland’s most famous valley, Glencoe. Feel history come alive when we tell the tales of the massacre of the Macdonald clan, which took place in 1692. This is where we stop for our lunch at the award-winning Clachaig Inn. We then travel through the Great Glen, eventually traveling west towards the stunning Eilean Donan Castle. This has to be Scotland’s most photographed castle, which is heaped with history. Soon we arrive at your accommodation in Skye with enough time to explore your surroundings and enjoy a traditional Scottish meal.

Day 2 - Kilt Rock, Trotternish Ridge, Flora MacDonald’s grave, The Fairy Glen, Hotel in Skye

We travel to the north of the island towards the Trotternish Ridge, which is home to some of the most dramatic mountain formations in the world. Enjoy the spectacular cliffs of the Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, and the beautiful mountain pass of the Quiraing. You then travel to one of Scotland’s most fascinating and scenic graveyards, the Kilmuir graveyard, which is the final resting place of Flora Macdonald, the ‘Preserver of Prince Charles Edward Stuart.’ It is said that there were over 3000 mourners at her funeral in 1790, and they drank 300 gallons of whisky in her memory. From here, you can enjoy the stunning views looking over the Minch towards Harris, North Uist, and Lewis. We take the short drive down to the Fairy Glenn, which is very similar to the Quiraing but only in miniature. Walk through the windy paths and round-topped hills that give the glen an otherworldly feel. Climb on top of the Fairy Castle, which is called Castle Ewan, and enjoy the beautiful views that the glen has to offer. We then drive you back to your accommodation.

Day 3 - Dunvegan Castle, Neist Point, Fairy Pools, Hotel in Skye

You visit the 13th-century home of the Clan MacLeod’s Dunvegan castle. The castle is the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland and has a wealth of history and five-star gardens for you to enjoy. You then travel to the most westerly point on the island and take in the spectacular views at Neist Point. Here you can look down towards the famous Neist Point lighthouse, where you may also be able to see dolphins and whales swimming by in the sea below. We then travel to our final location for the day and enjoy the views of the Fairy Pools at Glen Brittle. The Fairy Pools are rock pools of crystal clear mountain water that are spring-fed from the Cuillin Mountains. Embark on the stunning 2.4-km walk from the car park and take in the awesome views of the rock pools and waterfalls. We then take you back to your accommodation.

Day 4 – Views of Eilean Donan Castle, The Commando Monument, Dalwhinnie Distillery, Pitlochry, The Hermitage

Check out of your hotel in Portree and we then leave the Isle of Skye. Your guide will then stop at a lovely viewpoint to enjoy the panoramic views of Loch Shiel and Eilean Donan Castle. We then travel through the West Highlands of Scotland towards the famous commando monument for views of the Nevis Range. Soon after we will enjoy a highland whisky and chocolates at the famous Dalwhinnie Distillery. We will then stop at the little village called Pitlochry where we will have some lunch before heading to the mystical Hermitage forest. We will then drop you off at your accommodation of choice in Edinburgh or Glasgow.
